The Best of WWE Weddings

With the Royal Wedding this coming Friday I thought it was the perfect time to look back at some of the on screen weddings we’ve seen in WWE.

Triple H & Stephanie

Uncle Elmer and Joyce - Saturday Night's Main Event 05/10/85
Not the first WWE wedding as that honour goes to Paul Vachon & Ophelia on Tuesday Night Titans in 1984, but this is the first one I remember. Of course being a WWE wedding things could never go smoothly and it was Roddy Piper that stuck his nose in, saying the ring was no place for a wedding. Never one to miss an opportunity w¬as Jesse Ventura on commentary, who spent the whole ceremony making fun of the country couple. He however got his comeuppance when his face ended up in the wedding cake at the end of the night! Rumour has it that this was an real wedding ceremony that saw Uncle Elmer and Joyce leave the ring as actual husband and wife.

Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth – SummerSlam 1991
This actually went very smoothly and was a few months on from the reconciliation of the couple after Elizabeth came to Savage’s aid when he was attacked by Sherri after he’d been beaten down in a gruelling retirement match against the Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania 7. It wasn't until a week later when we saw footage of the reception and the heinous attack on Savage by The Undertaker and Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. The subsequent feud between Savage and Robert was one of the most hated rivalries of all time with suspensions, snake bites and some incredibly intense matches.

Stephanie McMahon and Triple H – Raw 29/11/99
This was actually the 3rd wedding Stephanie had been involved in on WWE, with the first being her forced marriage to The Undertaker and her second being a consensual one to Test that never actually went ahead due to Triple H. Her marriage to Triple H looked to have more in common with her previous ceremony with The Undertaker as it appeared that Triple H had drugged her. However, it soon turned out that both parties were willing participants and the marriage was revenge against Vince McMahon for his part in the aforementioned Undertaker saga.

Billy & Chuck – SmackDown 12/09/02
This ceremony is best remembered for three things; 1) Both Billy and Chuck got cold feet and pulled out before the ceremony could be completed. They blamed Rico, who was their manager at the time, for getting them into what was a stunt to gain more publicity. 2) The old man doing the ceremony. I for one was completely fooled and when he pulled off his fake face to reveal himself to be Eric Bischoff I was in shock! 3) When Bischoff mentioned the Three Minute warning and out came Rosie and Jamal to attack Billy and Chuck.

Edge & Vickie Guerrero – SmackDown 18/07/08
The ceremony didn’t take place on TV but highlights were shown and the reception too place on SmackDown. The head table was set up at the top of the ramp and Vicky made matches for her and her family’s titillation. Triple H had the last laugh, as he showed a video on screen of Edge kissing the wedding planner, Alicia Fox!

So that was just five of the weddings that have taken place on WWE screens – which ones did you like that I haven’t mentioned and which one was your favourite? Savage and Elizabeth almost brought a tear to my eye but for pure genius I have to go with Triple & Stephanie.

Rest In Peace Macho Man, you were one of the greatest to grace our screens with your intense and lovable aura in the ring as well as out the ring. You will be very sorely missed. I can only hope that now you will get a spot as a hall of famer...its better late then never.

You can't forget Teddy Long & Crystal! Obviousley ending with Teddy lying on the floor unconsious after a heart attack. Does anyone actually realise WWE never showed them get a divorce or developed the storyline after that?
