Well, this is a good one-disk collection but leaves you wanting so much more.
The retrospective on the Warrior is actually pretty good. It maps out his career pretty well enough; it documents his main feuds (all except the Undertaker which seemed missing). It's a good disk and certainly evokes a feeling of nostalgia. However, as you know from the title, this isn't a flattering lookback at the career of one of the most intense WWE superstars. No, this is a mix of documentary with satire. Some of the guys on this disk (DiBiase, Heenan et. al) are just here to poke fun at the Warrior. It has to be said, in context it works better than I'm making it sound. Some things, indeed, need making fun of... but strangely enough for a disk that was here to take fun of the Warrior, it is still surprisingly complimentary towards his work. There is lots to love if you're a Warrior fan here, strangely enough.
The best section of the disk is completely and utterly the section on Warriors promos. Perfect gold.
There are extras, too, which is good. The Warriors' best match against Randy Savage is included here. His great Steel Cage compromise against Rick Rude is also included. Hogan's loss at Wrestlemania 6. And Warriors debut. The Honkey Tonk match is a waste of time but if you've got a few seconds to spare for disk running time... and they also include interviews that didn't make the main feature as extras too.
All of this adds up to a four star disk package, except that there's just not enough. The disk could have been a two disk package and it would have benefitted greatly from this. I also have to say that whilst the Warrior is not the most amazing ring technician ever, he had more matches than just these five on the extras section that make it worth watching. This is almost the disk Warrior fans needed. I'm grateful enough for its' existence... but there could have been a lot more done here.
The Warrior was a great character for a kid such as myself growing up in the 80s and 90s.
I was always an NWA/WCW fan, but I watched the WWF none the less.
This DVD is what a lot of WWE DVDs are, revisionist history designed to bury their subject/put a WWE spin on wrestling history.
While the Warrior was no technician, he acomplished everything that character needed to do.
The comments on this DVD seem somewhat rehearsed, and in the case of Ric Flair, childish.
The Ultimate Warrior was one of the most iconic wrestlers in the 80s and 90s, and I remember when I first got into WWE my first PPV was WrestleMania IV, and I will never forget the the main event, Title Vs Title, Warrior Vs Hogan.
OK, the guy may not have had loads of ring skills (but you could say that about many wrestlers including Hulk Hogan) but the energy he exuded was truly amazing and it whipped the crowds into a frenzy.
This DVD gives a brief outline of Warrior's career, and features some of the best WWE matches that he had (and also the stupidly short Intercontinental Title match against Honky Tonk Man). Although it is an interesting insight in the wrestler/character, I do feel it does lack a lot, and I would really like to see WWE do a DVD set like they have done with many other legends featuring promos (even if they were gibberish!), matches in WCW and more.
Despite it's shortness, I'd recommend this DVD....get your copy now!

The Ultimate Warrior was one of the most important wrestlers in the wwe back in the late 80?s and early 90?s!A household name around the world of wrestling, this set has some great matches, but is missing a lot,i hope wwe will release a more complete(3 disc) set dedicated to this famous wrestler, the warrior deserves better than this!I?m a huge fan of the wwe and i hope they will induct the warrior in the hall of fame some day!
I was never a big fan of the Warrior's but what he lacked in ring skills i guess he made up for it in the energy he brought to the crowd, good dvd and worth every penny.
This dvd is very intresting to see what other WWE & Former superstars think of him, you never find the dvd boring. It also shows you how much he got the crowd cheering for him with his in ring performance and especially his entrance to the ring.
The only bad things which stop this dvd being a 5 star in my own opinion is that it should have been a longer documentry and maby a few more matches and extras ( 2 disc ) and the fact that most of the people speaking on the dvd seems to be running him down on every section of the dvd apart from Christain & Y2J. I wish we could hear Ultimate Warrior's side of the story. They also say that he is not a good wrestler and Bobby The Brain says that he cant wrestle like Hogan ( That made me laugh ). I think Worrior was very underated, he wasnt the best wrestler in the world but i think he was better than the likes of Hogan and todays Batista.
Any fan of Warrior should buy it, dont be put off on what they say about him we dont know his side of the story, ive watched this 5 times now and i still think the guys a legend.
I advise you BUY.
"TEAR OPEN THE DVD CASE HULK HOGAN!!" Well what can you say, the Ultimate warrior along with Bret Hart stand alone as my personal favourite wrestlers of the "WWF" era so i looked forward to this dvd. The story isn't depicted by the Warrior himself but is full of classic stars telling their side of the story both good and bad of the Warroir. The dvd tells of the Warriors early begginings as the "Dingo Warrior" and his progression into the limelight of the WWE. This dvd has two sides to it's coin on one side the warrior is mocked and criticised for his lack of in ring knowledge and technical ability and for his promotional rants lol. (look out for a piece with Christian and i think Jericho were they send up the Warrior, funny!). On the other side the Warrior is given credit for inspiring the likes of Edge and Christian and along with Hulk really increasing the profile of wrestling!.
In summary in my opinion this dvd doesn't detract from the legend that is the Ultimate Warrior and if you are a fan you'll still love the dvd. There's also the bonus of some great matches thrown in too!. Yeah sure the guy made some mistakes i.e alledgedly holding the company mid Summerslam when he said he wouldn't wrestle unless he got X amount of dollars. The Warrior was a crowd favourite, a draw, a money maker and an underated wrestler so Vince new his potential and every time he made a mistake he was ALWAYS brought back.
The ultimate warrior is one of the all time real wwf superstars!!! and this dvd proves that, when i bought this dvd i thought it was a bit of a risk but after watching it i went back to the begining and watched it again. Its one of the best buys i have made out all my wwe dvds!!
This dvd,i think, was the wwe tyring to make the warrior look a bit silly but they done the opposite in my view, his interviews are excellent, never is a wrong word spoken and the part when edge and christian are doing their own version of a warrior interview is worth the money on its own!! A great dvd!!
The Ultimate Warrior was my first favourite WWF superstar and I had watched several of his matches. His best one was against Hulk Hogan at WM6 where he was defending his WWF IC title as well as wrestling for Hulk Hogan%u2019s WWF title which he later won. This DVD tells us everything that we need to know about the Ultimate Warrior%u2026 why he left, Why he came back, Why he left again, Why he came back again, etc. The threats to Vince McMahon for more money or he would not wrestle his match later that evening at SummerSlam, etc.
I Highly Recommend this is for every wrestling fan that remembers the Ultimate Warrior even though it is just a 1 DVD set because it talks about some great issues involving The Ultimate Warrior along with his different looks (short hair) and so on.
There are also quite a few matches given, though it would have been better if they had given a 2nd disc to add more of his matches to it throughout, anyway its still worth buying it - 100%!
A controversial character in and out of the ring, nobody can deny the impact Jim 'The Ultimate Warrior' Hellwig has on professional wrestling in the late 1980s and early 1990s. A former WWE Champion and 2-time Intercontinental Champion, the Warrior was one of the most popular Federation Superstars of his era, and at one point looked like he would become an even bigger name than Hulk Hogan. However, Hellwig's alleged bad backstage attitude, limited and often dangerous wrestling abilities, and his incomprehensible promos conspired to give the career of the Warrior more stops and starts than a clapped-out automobile.
The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior achieves being a massively entertaining profile on the life and times of the Warrior without actually any participation from the man himself (Jim Hellwig turned down an invitation from WWE to talk on the DVD). With the relationship between Warrior and Vince McMahon still icy years after Hellwig last worked for WWE, many have called this a "burial" of the Warrior's career, and it's not hard to see why with legends such as Bobby 'The Brian' Heenan criticising Ulti's wrestling and promo skills.
But current WWE Superstars such as Chris Jericho and Edge talk about the upside of the Ultimate Warrior: his mystical character and the way he, for a brief period in time, was the hottest thing in the world of wrestling. Hellwig's major league grap career had almost as many downs as ups (if not exaggerated by Vince, the way he held his boss up for money prior to wrestling the Summerslam `91 main-event is a disgraceful way for a professional to behave), his 1996 Federation comeback to seemingly just shill his comic books is about as pointless a return as anyone's in the company's history, and the less said about his abysmal, brief WCW stint in 1998, the better.
Self-Destruction is one of the most entertaining DVDs Silver Vision and WWE Home Video have for sale right now, and will appeal to anyone, whether they were a massive Ultimate Warrior fan back in the day, whether they couldn't stand him, or whether they've never heard of him and want to learn more about the big guy from Parts Unknown. A must-have purchase!
