Jack Johnson & 15 Greatest Rounds DVD

Product Code: ESPNDVD009

Jack Johnson was perhaps the most controversial boxing champion of all time. The world wasn't ready for a black athlete to win the major prize in sport in 1908 but that's just what happened at Rushcutter's Bay, on the outskirts of Sydney, when Johnson beat Tommy Burns in 14 rounds.

As soon as the result was wired around the world, the reaction began to set in. There were calls for the old champion, James J Jeffries, to come out of retirement and the odious 'White Hope' campaign began.

Eventually Johnson fled America to Europe, but clung on to his championship until 1915, when he lost in 26 rounds to Jess Willard, after moving on to Cuba.

As a bonus to the Johnson story, see 15 of the greatest rounds of boxing ever seen - from the famous Long Count round between Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney, to the unbelievably exciting first round in the middleweight classic between Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns. Others in action include Mike Tyson, Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, Archie Moore and Sugar Ray Robinson.
