The night Rocky Marciano challenged Jersey Joe Walcott for the world heavyweight title in the Municipal Stadium, Philadelphia, on 23 September 1952 a legend was born. Walcott, the grim-faced old boxing master who was the oldest man ever to hold the championship, predicted that he would take Marciano, the unbeaten, raw, knockout artist from Massachusetts, to school. Marciano, as polite and gentle outside the ring as he was mean and ruthless inside it, just wanted one chance to land the right hand he called his Suzy-Q... just one chance.
