ONE OF THE BEST RUMBLE EVENTS IN HISTORY!
The 20th edition of the Royal Rumble event resided from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas and contained one of the best cards in the history of the event. The main draw as usual for a Rumble event, the Royal Rumble itself, was up their with the best of them, and the final 4( and more specifically the final 2) was as epic as any in history. But not to be upstaged, the WWE championship is still talked about today as one of the craziest matches in the events history!
30 Man Royal Rumble Match- This Rumble was heading to be a great Rumble, not the best, but a fairly great one, but the final 4 lifted this match up bigtime. Before i get to that lets talk about the positives: I loved how they started with two veterans and legends in Flair and Finlay, and they put on a solid showcase to start off, and from there on the Rumble had many memorable moments including Sabu getting chokeslammed by Kane to the outside onto a table, Miz getting eliminated almost as soon as he entered, Sandman hitting anything that moved with a kendo stick until he was eliminated in what resulted in a quicker stay in the rumble match than his own entrance, the Great Khali came in and caused havoc, taking out everyone, until the undertaker arrived and took him out, and Vicesra getting eliminated by practically 7-8 people! Even with this, there wasnt enough entertaining moments midway through, it almost began to drag, but thats where Undertaker, HBK, Edge and Orton come in. They put on a fantastic 4 way brawl, with Rated RKO trying to take out both men with a chair and their signature moves, only to be eliminated by HBK. And then, the final two was aruably the longest and greatest final two of them all, the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, two icons, put on a fantastic 7 minute mini-match, leaving everyone on the edge of their seat until Undertaker eliminated HBK to become the first man to win the rumble from number 30. It led to people pratically begging the WWE to put those two in the ring one last time( which they did 2 years later in one of the best matches in the history of WM). The final 4 really pulled this rating up, i almost wanted to give it a 9.5, but after alot of consideration, i believe a 9 is the justified final rating. Fantastic Rumble match, up their with the best-9/10
World Championship Match
Batista vs. Mr. Kennedy- Suprisingly great match! Yes it was borderline great, but Kennedy showed that at the time he was worthy to be up their with the main event superstars, pulling Batista to his first great match of that particular title reign. Great physcology by Kennedy on Batista's legs, and equally great selling, the fans were starting to want Kennedy to take the win. What this match also showed is that Batista is a better wrestler than he is given credit for, and Kennedy needed a significant finisher as the moves prior to the near falls wernt believable enough. Nethertheless these two can be proud and they put on a great entertaining match-8/10
Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship
John Cena vs. Umaga- WOW. I think thats what the majority of us watching this match said at the end. Shockingly great, no scratch that, this was a classic, yes these two put on aruably the most suprising classic match of all time. No one expected it to be anything memorable, but its still talked about till this day! Arguably both mens greatest match of their relatively short careers(sadly for Umaga, RIP), they put on one of the craziest matches i think i have and will ever witness. They played on the Cena injury perfectly, Umaga played his monster role perfectly, and Cena played his underdog role equally perfectly. I loved the way Umaga kept his monster ways through the match, wanting to beat up Cena when he was down for the count but Estrada holding him back, Umaga dominated this match but Cena never quitted, never gave up, and this is aruably the best Last Man Standing match in history. Some of the most craziest spots ive seen: Umaga literally running on two announce tables before missing a splash on Cena on the third announce table, Cena throwing the steps from the inside to the out onto Umaga, Cena smashing Umaga's skull with a monitor, and one of the most unique endings to a match ever, Cena choking Umaga with the ring ropes! UNBELIEVABLE STUFF. I loved the story telling, something that i often criticise the newcomers to the WWE. This match shows you why Cena and Umaga were in the main event, you watch indy shows with crazy spots but people only pop for those spots, they dont know how to tell a story, and thats why the fans loved this, they were emotionally attached to this, cheering on Cena as he tries to overcome the odds even with his back against the wall. CLASSIC CLASSIC CLASSIC, one of the best matches in the events history, one of the best matches of the decade, and damn near close to 5stars-9.5/10
ECW World Championship Match
Lashley vs. Test- Another suprise, but not a good one, i thought this would be a good big man match, yet i was highly disapointed. Test (another guy on this event whom is dead, RIP) didnt deliever and prove himself to be worthy of a title reign, while no-one really cared about Lashley, even as WWE tried to push him down our throats. This match started off like it would be good but disintergrated to a resthold bonzana with nothing else, and with the most ridiculous ending ever, why would a man who desperately wanted the title allow himself to be counted out? Sometimes i wonder. Not completely bad, just below average ,could of been soo much better. The one downside to the event-5/10
Hardys vs. MNM- Another suprise on the night, the 1st may i add. Not a good suprise though. I thought this would be a great match, yet it only ended up being very good. Good tag team wrestling between the best two teams in the industry, but their wasnt enough back and forth action and the match became stale at times, preventing this match from reaching that great level. It was as if these guys were stuck on second gear, never having that super hot finish they are well known for. But enough negatives, this was a quality opener, and had the crowd into the match. Very good, but could of been MUCH better-7.5/10
As you can see this is a wonderful event, with just one blip that stopped it from being a 5star event, and the extras were equally great, with an interesting segment with McMahon and Donald Trump in which real money fell from the ceiling! Kane confronting the Rumble winner, his kayfabe brother Undertaker, and a very good world tag team championship with Rated RKO and Cena&HBK, a match that was heading for greatness until the abrupt ending. Great event, Memorable Rumble, unforgettable title match and a great selection of extras. GET THIS ASAP!
